Placer County has a rich history of railroading in California.  This book covers 14 different railroads that did or still do exist in some association with Placer County—the narrow gauge and standard gauge, long transcontinental, and short point-to-point railroads, some with short-lived operations while others operated for decades.

 This book rolls chronologically through the history of the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad from 1874 to 1942, with detours and short stops at various important moments in its history.  Includes 239 rare photographs and information garnered from contemporary newspapers.

This is the story of the “Never Come-Never Go” (NCNG) Railroad, a pioneer line that left an indelible imprint on the territory it served—California’s northern mining district.  Nevada County had the largest and best-producing quartz gold mines for almost a century.
